Abstract:
Surveys hundreds of books published in Dutch in the past fifty years, with emphasis on novels, diaries, and memoirs. Establishes that a short-lived interest in the immediate postwar period was followed by a long period of silence, which ended ca. 1957. Categorizes the different themes - roundups, escape routes, hiding, resistance, concentration camps - in a literature which has burgeoned since 1980. Devotes special sections to Anne Frank, Etty Hillesum, and Charlotte Salomon, and concludes with the literature of the second generation.
