Abstract:
The story of Joseph (Gen 37-50) places Jacob with his family clan in Egypt, sheltered by Joseph turned vizier of Pharaoh. The harmony between Jews and Egyptians throughout the narrative becomes surprisingly growing and worthy of study. Accepting that the literary framework of these chapters consists of a novelized story written primarily in Persian times, we will delve into plot details to appreciate the Sitz im Leben of Egyptian-Jewish relations, which in our view evoke the historical context of Hikse rule of Egypt during the Second Intermediate Period.
