Abstract:
Discusses the desertion of ca. 3,000 Polish Jews from Anders' Army in 1943, and the antisemitism in that army as a factor which influenced the deserters' decision to remain in Palestine. Underlines that Anders himself gave orders against antisemitism, but they were not effective. States that one of the reasons for the antisemitism was the pro-Russian attitude that Polish Jews evinced in September 1939, when the Soviet Army occupied eastern Poland Another act of desertion due to antisemitism occurred at the beginning of 1944 in Great Britain, where more than 100 soldiers left the Polish Army and joined the British Army. The desertion in Great Britain had international echoes and was widely reported in the press.
