Abstract:
Discusses works on the Dreyfus Affair published in France between 2005-06, focusing on four books which were written or edited by Vincent Duclert: a new edition of "L'affaire Dreyfus" (first published in 1994); "Alfred Dreyfus: L'honneur d'un patriote", a biography; the illustrated "Dreyfus est innocent! Histoire d'une affaire d'Etat"; and Dreyfus' correspondence with his wife Lucie between 1894-99. Duclert views the Affair as heralding the 20th century, the age of extremes, and Dreyfus as a progressive idealist, whose efforts were emblematic for the complicated connection between citizenship and justice, society and law. Several other new works on the Affair and some new editions are mentioned, among them Joseph Reinach's "Histoire de l'affaire Dreyfus", edited by Hervé Duchêne.
