Abstract:
Discusses forerunners of National-Socialist ideology and law in the Third Reich, especially in regard to antisemitism as part of the Nazi doctrine. States that German nationalism was more radical and exclusivist than other nationalistic trends in 19th-century Europe. The "völkisch" movement in Germany expressed the ethnic ties between Germans in a mythologized and radical way that intensified national feelings. Antisemitism was part and parcel of this movement from the very beginning. Surveys the views of Wilhelm Marr, Heinrich von Treitschke, Paul de Lagarde, Eugen Dühring, Theodor Fritsch and others, and their influence in Nazi ideology. Traces of their views are apparent in the legislation of the Third Reich.
