After an introduction to the family brewing business, the memoir covers Frederick Landmann's years of education and apprenticeship, then his business travel for the family brewing supplies business to the Far East. He describes the rise of Hitler in Germany and all the obstacles and persecution this brought to his family, leading to his flight from the country in 1938.
