Abstract:
Adolf Ágai, the Jewish editor of the Hungarian satirical magazine "Borsszem Jankó", created, in his items in the magazine, a number of characters, many of them Jewish. Argues that the Jewish characters were not recapitulations of antisemitic stereotypes, but rather served to undermine the idea of a uniform Jewish collective identity, and therefore were accepted by Jewish readers.
