Abstract:
Discusses the conversion of Solomon Halevi, who took the name Pablo de Santa María (1390), and rejects the accusation that he was engaged in persecution of the Jews. States that he was a sincere convert who dedicated himself to proselytizing among his former Jewish brethren. Analyzes Pablo de Santa María's apologetic work "Scrutinium S. Scripturarum" (1435), which describes a debate between a Christian and a Jew, outlining his obsession with the literal sense of the biblical and talmudic texts, leading, more than any interpretation, to theological conclusions about the messianic nature of Jesus.
