Kurzfassung:
States that the word Holocaust is currently understood as referring only to the concentration camps; points out that the Holocaust included other aspects, such as ghettos, death marches, extermination in open fields, resistance, and the fate of survivors and émigrés. Disagrees with the preference in some Jewish circles for the Hebrew term Shoah; they argue that Holocaust means a kind of religious sacrifice, and Shoah means annihilation. Asserts that the etymology of the word has no relevance because the original meaning has been forgotten. Concludes that the use of the word Holocaust is justified, since it names the unique phenomenon of the extermination of Jews in the 20th century, which is different from other genocides in human history.
