Abstract:
The Wielka Emigracja (Great Emigration) was the emigration of thousands of Poles and Lithuanians, particularly from the political and cultural élites, from 1831 to 1870, due to failed revolution attempts during those years. Discusses debates which arose amongst the émigré groups in regard to the "Jewish question", focusing here on the demographic, economic, and cultural arguments of anti-Jewish and pro-Jewish groups. The political aspect of this issue will be presented in a separate article.
