Abstract:
A lecture delivered at a memorial meeting on 24 October 1996, convened by the Abbey of Pannonhalma. Surveys the activities of Born in Hungary, from his arrival in Budapest in May 1944, on behalf of non-Jews and Jews: protection of enemy aliens (Poles, Yugoslavs, etc.) and prisoners of war, aid to Jews, relief for deportees, appeals to authorities on behalf of Jews in danger, distribution of protective documents, survey of protected houses and children's homes, and protection of endangered institutions.
