Abstract:
The pointed hat, known as the "Jewish hat", probably has its sources in Europe. Jews used to wear this headgear by their own initiative, long before the discriminatory legislation in Germany. Paintings from the 12th century show figures from the Bible wearing pointed hats. After 1215, as Jews were ordered to wear badges and pointed hats, these symbols were used in paintings for discriminatory representation of the Jewish people.
Note:
Under Christian and Islamic rule, and in medieval art.
