Kurzfassung:
Traces non-Jewish Russian historian and politician Pavel N. Milyukov's fight against antisemitism. Notes that although Milyukov (1859-1943) did not write a separate work on the phenomenon, his sharp analyses of it appear in many of his writings and he always connects the fight against antisemitism with the fight for democracy. Before 1917 the Kadet party he founded in 1905 included many Jewish intellectuals, and Milyukov fought the antisemitism of the Russian Duma. After 1921, in Paris, he combated antisemitism in right-wing immigrant circles, which accused the Jews of causing the Russian revolution. From 1923, after the re-publication of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", Milyukov fought to reveal them as a forgery, inter alia appearing before the court in Bern in 1934. In the 1930s, he studied the role of the Jews in the Russian Revolution, arguing that they did not play a specially prominent role or form the majority of the political opposition. He contended that it was not the revolution that triggered antisemitic violence in Russia, but rather the opposite: the revolution was triggered by antisemitic violence.
