Kurzfassung:
A lecture presented at a conference held in Ashkelon in 1999. Objects to using the Holocaust in any way, or deriving any sort of "lessons" from it. Explaining the Holocaust is problematic; it was a unique event that cannot be completely explained logically. Notes that it is a mistake to offer the same explanation for antisemitism and for the Holocaust, as they are two entirely different phenomena. Although the latter is based on the former, it is the sequel of antisemitism, but there is a fundamental difference between them, because it is possible to "understand" the psychological, sociological, economic, and historical explanations for antisemitism, but one cannot "understand" the Holocaust. States that it is important, however, to remember the Holocaust, and it is possible to search for meaning in the Jewish tragedy. Concludes that a religious response to the Holocaust consists of "faith in meaning beyond the absurd".
