Abstract:
Compares the findings of two surveys on reactions to antisemitism - of Jews in a minority status (in the USA) and Jews in the majority status (in Israel). Based on a nationwide sample carried out in the USA in 1989 and in Israel in 1985. Despite fundamental differences in the status of the two communities, both are deeply concerned about the perceived increase in antisemitism. Their reactions to antisemitic incidents are affected by common historical experiences of the Jewish people (e.g. pogroms, the Holocaust). Specific incidents are experienced as attacks on the Jewish people as a whole, and, as such, need to be answered by coordinated actions of all Jews wherever they may be. Pp. 132-143 present statistical results.
