    Abstract: Der Autor, Historiker, gibt einen Überblick über die Geschichte der Juden in Europa vom 8. bis zum 20. Jahrhundert. Einzelne Schwerpunkte sind u.a. das goldene Zeitalter in Spanien (8. - 15. Jahrhundert), die Stellung der Frauen in Mittelalter und Neuzeit, die Lebensbedingungen der Landjuden (16. - 19. Jahrhundert), die Modernisierung des Judentums im 19. Jahrhundert, die Schoa und jüdisches Leben nach 1945. Porträts von bedeutenden Frauen und Männern und wichtigen Gemeinden ergänzen den informativen Text. Für den Anhang wurde ein Register, eine Zeittafel, ein Glossar, eine Bibliographie sowie ein Verzeichnis von Internetadressen zusammengestellt.
