Abstract: Documentary countering international claims of anti-Semitism, which aims to illustrate the satisfaction of Russian Jews living in the Jewish Autonomous Region
Abstract: The film opens with old newsreels showing the work of Jewish people to build a nation for themselves within the Soviet Union. It includes footage from the establishment of the capital Birobidjan in 1934. The narrator contrasts the old images of clearing land and agriculture with modern scenes of factories and urbanisation. There is an interview with a worker who tells of her happiness and equality, and with an American journalist invited to the city. Later in the film there is a section about the Second World War, and an interview with a Soviet war hero whose family were executed during the Holocaust; he now sits at the head of the Anti-Semitism Committee. The flourishing of the arts and music in the Jewish community is also considered, with particular focus on the violin; this section includes footage of violin lessons and an interview with a renowned Jewish musician. The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Birobidjan mark the end of the film. The final claim made by the narrator is that the people of all the Soviet nations are now all Soviets, all equals in the same nation

Abstract: Esther Adlers autobiografisch inspirierter Roman erzählt die fesselnde Geschichte zweier Mädchen, die sich 1930, an ihrem ersten Schultag, in Breslau, Deutschland, kennenlernen.

Abstract: Jerusalem is a child of the desert, a city precariously hovering on its brink, exposed to a bright, unrelenting sun. Its never-ending story continues to fascinate people. Jerusalem is not only an important historical and spiritual site but also a modern city, home and workplace to three quarters of a million people that draws attention as the Middle East's most controversial urban center. Yet the city we know today can actually only be understood against the background of the comprehensive and rapid changes which took place here in the second half of the 19th and the first decades of the 20th centuries. Beyond the Wall is a new take on an old city, offering a unique and unusual perspective. As an original work of non-fiction, the book sheds light on some of the enigmas of Jerusalem’s more recent past, telling the tale of its growth from a provincial town somewhere in the Turkish Empire into a modern city during the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century. It recalls the time when Turkish rule was declining and many different population groups became active in Jerusalem, founding their own neighborhoods, institutions, and businesses while they competed for influence—Jews and Arabs as well as the French, Germans, British, Russians, Austrians, Italians, and Americans, their consuls and clergy. The book also includes two chapters on Arab Jerusalem—a subject that is often neglected—and a preface by Teddy Kollek, who served as the city’s mayor for almost 30 years.

Abstract: This book is a comprehensive account of the Chelmno death camp. Chelmno was not only the first Nazi death camp, it also set a horrific example in establishing gas vans as the first mass use of poison gas to kill Jews. Chris Webb and Artur Hojan cover the construction and the development of the mass murder process, as perfected by the Nazis. The story is painstakingly told from all sides, the Jewish inmates, some who survived the Holocaust, the perpetrators, the Polish Arbeitskommando, and others. A major part of this work is the Jewish Roll of Remembrance that includes the few survivors and the Jews deported from the Reich, via the Litzmannstadt ghetto, to their deaths in the gas vans. The book is richly illustrated with historical and contemporary photographs and documents.

Abstract: Šárka Sladovníková analyzes the depiction of the Holocaust in Czechoslovak and Czech Feature Films and the relevant literary pretexts. While she charts the social and cultural framework in which the films were made and how this framework changed, she also focuses on the cinematic language, the composition of and narration in each film (e.g., the depiction of the war and the Shoah as a narratively closed versus a narratively open event), genre aspects of the films (e.g., the use of comedy and humor), convention and innovation in presenting motifs and characters (the division of gender roles, the character of the “good German”). Particular attention is paid to the portrayal of stereotypes and countertypes in the films, where already well-known images, situations, and backdrops are repeated and which meet viewers’ expectations or, in contrast, which form countertypes and countersituations that go against the grain. Many of the films analyzed are adaptations of literary works. Therefore, this book is also a contribution to the rapidly developing field of adaptation studies.

Abstract: Feature film about the Kaufmans, a Jewish family living in Czechoslovakia during WWII, who are taken to Terezin (Theresienstadt), a transit base on the way to the extermination camps. [WARNING: contains scenes of dead bodies.]
Abstract: The film opens with documentary footage of Adolf Hitler and other high ranking Nazis, intercut with marching troops. On the same day that a Jewish optician is forced to resign, her colleague proposes. As Jews are banned first from attending the theatre, and then from holding jobs in the civil service, her family consider migrating to South America. Their attempts fail, and the elderly members of the family are deeply distressed when they are forced to wear a yellow star. The family host a wedding for the young couple and afterwards, a friend commits suicide to avoid his transportation to Terezin. Soon most of the family is transported; in one harrowing scene, the family file forward into the camp, while coffins are carried out. The grandfather dyes his hair to pass as a young man and in one memorable scene, the prisoners march through the rain past a morose band. Tony poses as a Jewish man to visit Terezin and when he returns finds his father and brother were arrested and "killed while escaping". He is arrested, off-screen, and his wife sent to Terezin. In a dramatic scene, the prisoners realise they are constructing a gas chamber when children transported from a different camp flee from the sight of showers. The film ends with jubilant scenes of liberation and the reunion of husband and wife at a cemetery

Abstract: From her immigration to Mandatory Palestine in 1933 until her death in 1950 American-born Dorothy Kahn Bar-Adon worked as a reporter for The Palestine Post (later The Jerusalem Post), while freelancing for periodicals in Palestine and abroad. Bar-Adon covered life in towns, kibbutzim and Arab communities of Mandatory Palestine during this period of World War, armed conflict between Arabs and Jews, immigration to Israel of Holocaust survivors. Close to 60 years after her death, this edited collection of Bar-Adon's writing offers a vivid view both of daily life in the Jewish and Arab communities of pre-State Israel, and of the burning issues of the day

Abstract: This book is a comprehensive account of the Belzec death camp in Poland which was the first death camp using static gas chambers as part of the Aktion Reinhardt mass murder program. This study covers the construction and the development of the mass murder process. The story is painstakingly told from all sides, the Jewish inmates, the perpetrators, and the Polish inhabitants of Belzec village, who lived near the factory of death. A major part of this work is the Jewish Roll of Remembrance, that covers the few survivors and details of some of the Jews among the many hundreds of thousands who perished in Belzec. The book is richly illustrated with historical and modern photographs, as well as documents and drawings, some of the photographs have never before been seen in public.

Abstract: The Jewish community of the city of Kleczew came into existence in the sixteenth century. It remained large and strong throughout the next four hundred years, and in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries it constituted 40-60% of the total population. The German army entered Kleczew on September 15, 1939, shortly after the outbreak of World War II. The communities of Kleczew and the vicinity were among the first Jewish collectives in Europe to be totally destroyed. The events presented in this book reveal that the organization of deportations and the methods of mass murder conducted in this district, by Kommando Lange, served as a model that would be applied later in the death camps during the mass extermination of Polish and European Jewry. If so, it was in the woods near Kleczew that the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question" began
