Abstract:
Discusses the situation of the Jews in the area of southern Slovakia ceded to Hungary in November 1938, as a consequence of the Munich Agreement. At that time, there were ca. 46,000 Jews living there. Many of the Jews and non-Jews fled to other countries during the Hungarian takeover. After deportation from Slovakia began in 1942, some Slovak Jews fled into Hungary to avoid deportation In 1944, the number of Slovak Jews present in Hungary legally was ca. 200. Those Jews who had left Slovakia illegally automatically lost their citizenship.
