Abstract:
Examines Hungarian Jewish press reports on events in Italy. Describes similarities in the reactions of Hungarian and Italian Jews to the anti-Jewish laws - their trust and patriotism even after the laws were enacted. Emphasizes the fact that the laws in these two countries were explained by contradictory reasoning. In Italy, Jews were blamed for assimilation, while in Hungary they were accused of lack of assimilation. Concludes that antisemitism will always find pretexts.
