Abstract:
Beginning with an essay on eugenics, the most important field of science under the National Socialists, the book examines the forced sterilizations, the special children's wards, Operation T4, and the decentralized killing of the sick in the final months of the war. Featuring recently discovered documents, letters and photos, the publication describes the fate of families who lost children to Nazi "euthanasia" programs as well as patients who were unable to defend themselves against forced sterilization. It also takes a look at the lives of the criminals: the doctors, nurses and assistants who were part of a system that attempted to legitimize murder. Most of these medical professionals were able to pursue their careers unhindered after the war.
