Abstract:
Band 9 der Martin Buber Werkausgabe versammelt Bubers Schriften zur Auseinandersetzung mit dem Christentum: Bubers Dialog mit dem Christentum ist geprägt von der Unterscheidung zwischen der Religion Jesu und der paulinisch-johanneischen Christologie. Während er erstere mit dem Urgeist des Judentums identifiziert und das Urchristentum für einen genuinen Ausdruck jüdischer Religiosität erachtet, verwirft er letztere als eine vom Hellenismus und Gnostizismus gezeichnete Entstellung des biblischen Glaubens. Das Verständnis Jesu als einer herausragenden Figur des Judentums verbindet für Buber Christen und Juden; das christologische Bekenntnis zu Jesus als dem gekommenen Messias trennt beide. Gemäß seinem "dialogischen Prinzip" aber entwickelt Buber bei allem Trennenden die Konzeption eines gott gewollten Nebeneinanders von Israel und Kirche, das scharfe Abgrenzung einerseits und Respekt vor der Andersheit des Gegenübers andererseits umschließt.
