Abstract:
From 1938 on, the Nazis planned to send the Jews to forced labor. Because of the Aryanization of Jewish businesses, many Jews were unemployed and had no sources of income. Jews, mainly from urban regions, were concentrated in camps and employed in road building, garbage disposal, etc., despite the fact that they were considered incapable and lazy by the authorities who feared sabotage. From 1941 on, all Jews were employed in these works; after the deportation of the remaining German Jews in 1942-43, only the "Mischlinge" continued in forced labor until the end of the war. Presents ten official documents from 1938-39 on this subject.
