Scope and Contents

This collection features an illustrated history and genealogy of the Vierfelder family of Buchau, Wuerttemberg. The centerpiece is the 266 page Vierfelder Family Chronicle. The collection includes articles and manuscripts about Buchau, its Jewish community, and its synagogues. Also included is material on former residents of the town who served in the allied armies during World War II, including reports on conditions there after the war. In addition to Jewish ritual objects and books containing handwritten notes, there are photos of family members and of the synagogues and other buildings of the communities of Buchau and Kappel.

Objects have been removed to the LBI Art and Objects Collection, including the following:

  1. Two medals, shaped in a cross, with 1916 inscribed into the centers, the smaller attached to a black lapel pin with a yellow and black ribbon.
  2. Medal/pin with black inscription on gold emblem (on silver background), Wuerttemberg and Buchau on emblem and on ribbons, "Wuerttemberg Kriegerbund" inscribed on pin.
  3. Lapel pin, with emblem in a laurel wreath, white, black and gold enameling, inscribed "Reichsverband Selbstaendiger Konditoren".
  4. Two medals (silver with red, gold, blue and white enameling, black and red ribbon) with safety pins attached to the ribbons; inscription reads "Wortt Rotes Kreuz"; medals are the same on both sides.
  5. Four medals: (1) silver cross with red, gold, blue and white enameling, black and red ribbon, inscription reads "Wortt Rotes Kreuz"; (2) bronze cross with laurel wreath, inscription reads "Landes-Feuerwehr-verband..."; (3) bronze, circular with helmet, ladder and ax, inscription reads "Fuer 25 Jaehridge Dienstzeit"; (4) Distinguished cross, silver with "CW" on front and 1916 on back. Medals are attached to the ribbons, which are attached to the lapel pin.
  6. Arm band, red on one side, yellow on the other. Baden-Wuerttemberg emblem and badge on them respectively. Metal snaps on the ends to fasten them.
  7. Yellow, black, white, brown and red ribbon attached to a black button or fastener.
