    Abstract: Moses Mendelssohn und seine Mitarbeiter schufen mit ihrer Pentateuchedition (Sefer netivot ha-schalom), zwischen 1780 und 1782 in Berlin erschienen, eines der wirkmächtigsten Werke der jüdischen Aufklärung. Diese Wirkung ist mehr noch als mit Mendelssohns deutscher Übersetzung mit dem hebräischen Kommentar (Biur) zu erklären, der vor allem den Zweck verfolgte, die neue Übersetzung in Beziehung zur jüdischen exegetischen Tradition zu setzen und auf diese Weise zu rechtfertigen.
