Kurzfassung:
Presents evidence from British, French, and Italian diplomatic sources, chronicles written by Jews, and the papers of Jewish relief organizations active in Morocco, showing that the Moroccan national and local authorities did not respect their pledge to safeguard the lives and properties of their Jewish subjects. The Jews' right to exercise their religion freely and conduct their communal life autonomously as long as they performed their duties toward their sovereign were also attacked. Jews were compelled to work on the Sabbath and holidays - e.g. preparing official and army uniforms, and salting decapitated heads of Berber rebels put on show and transported from one town to another. Market days were also held on the Sabbath in order to interfere with Jewish religious life and to curtail their economic competition with the local population.
