Abstract:
The Jewish industrial elite, which was largely integrated with the German industrial elite, had difficulties in its relations with the German "preindustrial elite", i.e. the aristocracy. These difficulties may be attributed to the prejudices of the aristocrats, including antisemitism. At every stage of his career, in every area of activity - in the universities, military service, etc. - a Jew of the upper class felt a distinct distance between himself and his aristocratic comrades. However, a Jewish patrician elite did emerge among the wealthiest Jews in Berlin, who were admitted into aristocratic circles in the Wilhelmine era .
