Abstract:
Argues against the accepted thesis that the famous two statues, the Church and the Synagogue, carved for the Strasbourg Cathedral ca. 1235, were designed with antisemitic intentions. Contends that the depiction of the Synagogue was influenced by interpretations of the biblical book "Song of Songs", and was viewed as the "sister-bride" who is destined to return to Christ, her spouse.
