Abstract:
Demonstrates how the poem "Written in Pencil in the Sealed Railway-Car", by the Israeli poet and Holocaust survivor Dan Pagis, may be utilized to introduce high-school students in Israel to Jewish and universal aspects of the Holocaust experience. The seemingly naive and unpretentious poem could be used to present the Holocaust as an event which happened on our planet to the Jewish people and which has universal aspects.
