Abstract:
Describes the dominance of antisemitism in student organizations in the 1920s, ranging from demand for a numerus clausus to violent attacks on Jews by radical-right bullies. The Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt had a relatively high percentage of Jews in both its student body and in the faculty. A Nazi poster of 1930 called the University a "stronghold of Jewish impudence". In 1933, in accordance with Nazi legislation, most of the Jewish teachers were dismissed and the number of Jewish students was drastically limited; by 1938 the university was free of Jews.
