Abstract:
The 1920 Jerusalem riots took place in the British-controlled part of the Occupied Enemy Territory Administration between 4-7 April 1920 in and around the Old City of Jerusalem. The riots began on Easter Sunday, when the Arab population were engaged in a procession for the annual Nebi Musa festival. Five Jews and four Arabs were killed in the riots, and several hundred were injured. The British military administration (led by General Allenby) was criticized for withdrawing troops from inside Jerusalem, and because it was slow to regain control. As a result, trust among the British, Jews, and Arabs eroded.
