Abstract:
Adon ꜤOlam is not assigned to Rabbi Solomon ibn Gabirol in any known sources, but some scholars, like Senior Sachs (1850) and Leopold Zunz (1855), have attributed it to him. I present nine philosophical and literary considerations in favor of this attribution: (1) The expression ‘adon Ꜥolam’ (= eternal Lord) seems not to appear in Hebrew literature before Ibn Gabirol, but is found in four of his known poems (Tevorakh Yah Adon ꜤOlam, ShimꜤah Adon ꜤOlam, Shene Ḥayyai, and Azai bi-SꜤif Ḥalom).
