Abstract:
In 1941, the appointment of Professor Julius Stone to a Chair in Law at the University of Sydney was rescinded. The opposition to the appointment was political, but "assumed an anti-Semitic garb". After a public outcry, Stone was reinstated. This affair was a reflection of the deteriorating status of the Jews in Australia from the 1930s on.
