Abstract:
Based on Inquisition documents, describes cases of a few Sephardi "travelers" who were tried by the Inquisition in Spain or Portugal in the 17th century. They were arrested for having undergone multiple baptisms, and for teaching Judaism to Conversos in secret. These were Jews who had left Spain and Portugal but returned there under the guise of converts in order to bring back Conversos to Judaism. Contends that they were following models set by Sephardi Jews who were engaged in the same activity in the Western diaspora.
