Abstract:
Focuses on the situation of the Jews in Argentina during the military dictatorship of 1976-83. Notes that a disproportionate number of Jews were arrested by the repressive military junta, that they were treated worse than other prisoners, and that ca. 1,000 Jews were killed. This was probably due to the fact that there were some avowed antisemites in the military government. Although Jewish communities were allowed to continue functioning as usual, many Jews lost jobs in the civil service and in universities, and thousands emigrated.
