Abstract:
Describes the ambivalent and conflicting feelings of Gentile villagers towards the Jew - which ranged from genuine fondness and caring to fear, dislike, and belief in the blood libel stories - in Cserépfalu, a Calvinist village in northern Hungary. In 1944 the last seven Jews of the village were deported to Auschwitz.
