Abstract:
Examines numerous contradictions and flaws in the legend of Duckwitz as a rescuer of the Jews of Denmark, and shows how some important sources (his diary and notebooks) have been used selectively or not at all by his biographers. States that Duckwitz was an opportunist who constantly changed and adapted his story for personal gain or according to the wishes of Danish politicians, who were afraid that aspects of Duckwitz's original story might compromise their careers.
