Abstract:
Lists countless recent books and articles that warn of an upsurge in xenophobia and, closely related to it, antisemitism. What is frightening is that while the number of activists on the radical right is small, their position is becoming socially acceptable. States that after the Nazi defeat, antisemitism persisted, disguised as philosemitism. In recent decades, the percentage of antisemites in the population has remained fairly stable. Refers to many cases of Nazi criminals rehabilitated after the war and integrated into the government. Discusses the neo-Nazi parties since 1945 and mentions the many cases of vandalism against Jewish institutions, especially cemeteries, commenting that there is a worrying tendency to downplay their seriousness. Members of the cultural elite, like Martin Walser, are demanding a "Schlussstrich", an end to guilt feelings over the Holocaust. And the recent demand for conformity to the German "Leitkultur" (ruling culture) puts all minorities at risk.
