Kurzfassung:
Contests attempts of Hungarian revisionist historians to rehabilitate Ferenc Szálasi, the Hungarian Arrow Cross leader placed in power by the Germans in October 1944. Eminent scholars, such as C.A. Macartney, N.M. Nagy-Talavera, and Randolph L. Braham, regard Szálasi as the most moderate among the Hungarian fascists, who "loathed" Jews but expressed no intention to exterminate them. A reexamination of documentary sources presents a much more grim picture of Szálasi's views and actions. Hatred of Jews was a major component of Szálasi's worldview, combining racism and religious practice. Szálasi did not oppose the Germans' deportation of Jews from Hungary after the occupation.
