Kurzfassung:
A response to the controversy concerning the first national Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) in Britain, held on 27 January 2001. Stresses that HMD is not just about Jews and not just about the past. In response to the claim by Peter Novick and others that Holocaust commemoration and education trivialize lesser crimes, concludes that these processes are crucial to commemorating, studying, and preventing genocide. While focusing on racism and intolerance, makes the point that antisemitism does exist at present in Britain and that Holocaust study should help people understand that Nazi antisemitism, which is of the past, is not the only variety.
