Kurzfassung:
Shabad-Gawronska was born in Vilna in 1882 and studied medicine in Germany and Russia. During the Holocaust she organized pediatric services in the Vilna ghetto. She set up and headed a health care center for infants, and established a day care center, as well as an orphanage, under the auspices of the health care center. When the ghetto was liquidated in September 1943, Shabad-Gawronska chose to share the fate of the orphanage's 100 residents rather than leave the ghetto, which she had permission to do. There are conflicting accounts of where she was killed.
