Abstract:
Examines the negative attitudes of politicians, intellectuals, and the general population in Hungary towards Jews during the interwar period and the war years, which facilitated the swift deportation of Hungarian Jewry by the Nazi occupation forces in March 1944. The Jews of Hungary had been living in the belief that they had successfully assimilated into Hungarian society, and therefore were not equipped to help themselves in 1944.
