Abstract:
Examines Celan's visit to Heidegger in his Black Forest hut in 1967 as reflected in the poem "Todtnauberg, " written a week later. Their walk (at the poet's request) through the highland marshes was a strategy to lead the philosopher into the underworld of the Holocaust, to confront him with the dead, and thus to force from him a confession. Neither Celan's plan nor its success (according to Bollack) were understood by the others present at the meeting or by the readers of the poem.
