Abstract:
Examines the 1943 rescue of Danish Jews. In contrast to scholars like the Oliners, who emphasize the role of the "universal" trait of altruism, stresses the specific cultural context of this rescue, attributing it largely to Danish identification with the Jews under the influence of a folk nationalism influenced by the Danish theological movement known as Grundtvigianism.
