Abstract: A rectangular monumental building was unearthed in Area D-South 1 at Kabri during the 2005 and 2011 excavation seasons and dated to the Middle Bronze Age II. It is located to the southeast of the core of the palace, and may be related to it. Further, the unique blueprint of the building hints at a possible liturgical function. The weathered crushed-limestone floor and the nature and state of finds recovered from it indicate that the building’s mudbrick superstructure had deteriorated after the former had fallen out of its original use and been abandoned. Iron Age pits did a little damage to the remains of the building, but extensive modern trenching activity demolished its entire southern part. Apart from this evidence, no occupation was demonstrated in this area following the abandonment and demise of the structure in the Middle Bronze Age.

Abstract: This chapter presents a chronotypological pottery sequence from pre-palatial and palatial loci in the palace complex at Kabri. The analysis of assemblages excavated between 2008 and 2011 in Areas D-West, D-South 1, and D-South 2 addresses aspects of production and consumption, standardization, and regionalism, contributing to the picture of the palatial economy of the Middle Bronze Age society at Kabri. The Iron Age pottery will be published in the next volume.

Abstract: The pottery assemblage of the exploratory 2005 excavation season belongs to the last phase of the palace, our Phase DW III (= Aharon Kempinski and Wolf-Dietrich Niemeier’s Stratum 3c). Notable finds include a small cache of vessels found within a perforated pithos base sunken in the floor in Area D-North. Most of the indicative sherds, however, are in secondary deposition, probably originating in the mudbricks of the palace that collapsed over the excavated floors and surfaces.
