Keywords: Fritsch, Theodor, ; Hitler, Adolf, ; Antisemitism Philosophy ; Antisemitism History 20th century
Abstract: Discusses Fritsch's "Der falsche Gott" (1911), arguing that although it did not achieve a large readership, it contributed to the ideological evolution of antisemitism as the integrating element in Nazi ideology. It was the first work to present so starkly the mortal struggle between Aryanism and Judaism. Fritsch wrote the book after he was imprisoned for blasphemy, for asserting in an article that "Yahweh is the god of evil and lies". In his book, he analyzed the Hebrew Bible, ascribing its positive parts to the original (Aryan) inhabitants of Canaan and its negative parts to the Jews who, he said, worshipped a satanic god created in their own image. He held that the Jews had plotted to subjugate other peoples, and that ancient cultures did right to exclude them, but they did wrong in allowing the Jews to survive. Similar ideas were developed by Artur Dinten and by Hitler's mentor Dietrich Eckart.
