Abstract: Discusses military organizations in Eretz Israel (the Hagana, Etzel, and Lehi), explaining differences between them and their various policies vis-à-vis Great Britain. Notes that the Revisionist Zionist ideology of Etzel complied with the wish of Polish politicians, from 1936 on, to promote the emigration of Jews from Poland. Relates the situation of Jewish soldiers in the Polish Army organized by General Anders in the USSR in 1941, including their experiences of antisemitism. After the evacuation of Anders' Army to Palestine in 1942, ca. 3,000 (out of ca. 4,400) Jewish soldiers either deserted or were released, and joined military organizations in Eretz Israel. Letters, memoirs and other documents prove that one of the important causes of desertion was antisemitism in the army. Describes, also, attitudes of Jews and Jewish organizations in Eretz Israel concerning desertion of Polish Jews. Shows how connections between Jews and Poles facilitated actions against the British. The same connections led to permission for the "illegal" Aliya Bet from Poland to Palestine between 1945-47.
