Abstract:
Janusz Korczak is known for his pedagogical methods and for the fate he suffered in the Warsaw Ghetto. We are less familiar with his interest in the image of the ‘New Jew’ and the Zionist movement of his time. This article attempts to introduce unknown ties that Korczak created with the collective settlement in Mandatory Palestine, and to shed light on his two visits at the kibbutz where he stayed, in 1934 and 1936. The article uses, among other sources, interviews with several of Korczak’s orphans who survived, and with those who accompanied him on his visit.
