Kurzfassung:
Regarding Jewish scholarship on Martin Luther, suggests that rather than treating changes in Luther's attitude toward the Jews as a historical problem the focus should be on changes in his theological orientation. In the Christian view, the Jew was seen as a witness - in positive terms, to the potential power of Christ, and in negative terms, to the power of sin (i.e. to the severity of the Jews' punishment by God). These Christian images of the Jew, also known as the "Judenspiegel", reflected acts of the Creator rather than those of the Jewish people. However, in the modern period the Jews were secularized, and Christians no longer viewed them solely in relation to God's will.
