Abstract:
Compares Spielberg's film "Schindler's List" with the British television documentary "Schindler", produced, written, and directed by Jon Blair in 1983. Klugherz, himself a documentary filmmaker, concludes that the Hollywood film is important because it has already been seen by millions, but "Schindler", the more authentic documentary, has the ring of truth throughout, including in terms of the survivors' conveying what it was like to be a victim of the Nazis. Summarizes the reaction to the two films in terms of audience interest, stating that audiences are not much concerned with historical truth, and that it is the fate of "Schindler", as it is of most documentaries, to be seen by a few.
