Abstract: David Viñas is an Argentinian Jewish writer. His novel, published in 1966, portrays events during the "Tragic Week" of 7-14 January 1919 in Buenos Aires. Following violent clashes with the police in the streets during a workers' strike, the Jews were accused of plotting to establish a Bolshevik regime in Argentina. The Church, which viewed the Jew as a diabolical agent of change, also incited the populace, and a full-scale pogrom broke out. States that Viñas' main interest in his book lies in his depiction of the protagonist, Camilo Pizarro, who represents the fascist well-born youth of Argentina.
